With increasingly stringent codes and standards, new construction projects are progressively becoming more energy efficient. In order to remain competitive with new facilities, existing buildings are faced with the challenge of balancing retrofit design goals, energy savings and capital investment. Renovating an existing structure can often be a more cost-effective and sustainable option - but how is this determined?
Energy modeling maps a building’s end-use energy consumption based on key building systems to best inform building owners and design teams how to save money and time while still meeting project energy and sustainability goals.
Morrison Hershfield has developed an energy optimization tool (demonstrated below) to empower you and your project team in meeting your energy targets while enabling your design vision.
Congratulations to Morrison Hershfield’s Dan Dahl for receiving the Committee Service Award, presented by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
Morrison Hershfield staff published three papers this April at the BEST4 Conference in Kansas City, Missouri. The quartet of Christian Cianfrone, Patrick Roppel, Radu Postole and Neil Norris worked alongside other subject matter experts presented the following:
Mark Lawton, P.Eng., Senior Building Science Specialist, was a subject matter expert in a June 2015 report for the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) on “Development of Thermal Bridging Factors for Use in Energy Models.” Morrison Hershfield was responsible for the 3D thermal modeling included in the report.
Building Energy Specialist Christian Cianfrone will be presenting and delivering a thermal bridging workshop at the ASHRAE EM Conference in Atlanta on Monday, September 28th. As a pre-conference workshop, those who are not attending the ASHRAE conference are still welcome to register and attend.
Morrison Hershfield was honored with an Award of Excellence in the Soft Engineering category for our Building Envelope Thermal Bridging (BETB) Guide from the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies – British Columbia (ACEC-BC) at their 26th annual Awards for Engineering Excellence Gala.
With the complexity of today’s building systems, we believe building performance analysis starts with the right team. Morrison Hershfield has the expertise, capacity and cutting edge tools to help meet all your analysis needs.
Morrison Hershfield is excited to announce that the highly anticipated Building Envelope Thermal Bridging Guide – Analysis, Applications, and Insights is now public and can be downloaded from BC Hydro. The guide aims to overcome obstacles confronting industry with respect to mitigating thermal bridging to reduce energy consumption in buildings.
Morrison Hershfield and Schöck, the international developer of innovative building products, issued a comprehensive report on the impact of concrete balconies on thermal and whole building energy performance.
