A Day at Morrison Hershfield is Better Than a Day at School - Take our Kids to Work Day Generates Excitement

Written by Morrison Hershfield | December 30, 2019

Morrison Hershfield’s Toronto office recently hosted a “Take our Kids to Work Day” that provided an opportunity for high schoolers to learn more about engineering, and based on the feedback from participants, we think the day went pretty well!

One participant noted “It was a fun learning experience and workplaces are not boring as I thought. A day at Morrison Hershfield was better than a day at school.”

The Toronto office has been participating in this program geared to high school students since 2001. This year, staff hosted nine Grade 9 students. Their day included presentations by staff on topics such as health and safety, fire safety, the environment and bridges.

Following the presentations, participants put their knowledge to the test in a series of related activities. These included “Spotting the Hazard”, creating a DIY fire extinguisher, identifying microorganisms, trying on electro fishing gear and building a bridge.

The consensus from staff and students was that this year’s Take our Kids to Work Day event was a major success! One participant had this to say:

“Take your kid to work day at Morrison Hershfield was an unforgettable experience! My friend and I loved the bridge building competition. It taught us how to work together, and make a strong structure. Thank you to all the amazing presenters and engineers that made it such a fun yet fascinating day of learning.”

Morrison Hershfield is happy to do our part to raise awareness about the endless possibilities when it comes to a career in engineering.
