Woods Award of Excellence or as it is fondly known, The “Beckie”. The award honours the memory of Anthony (Tony) Woods, a Past President of OBEC who realized that the 'industry' of research, design, construction and rehabilitation of the building envelope did not have a way to recognize the contribution of its members.

The “Beckie” is bestowed annually by OBEC to recognize the contribution of a member of the building industry to the promotion of excellence in the design, construction and performance of the building envelope. This, the Council’s premier award, recognizes individuals for substantial contributions to building science within the context of the building envelope throughout his or her career.

George Torok of Morrison Hershfield’s Ottawa office received this year’s award in Toronto on January 8, 2014 in recognition of his 26 years of contribution to the industry, including research, standards development (CSA FIT-1 and CSA-A440.4) and education (work on the OBEC and BECOR boards of directors, educational seminars for client groups such as CCI and ACMO, and participation in the new Bachelor of Building Science program at Algonquin College).
