Its Solid Waste and Resource Management Plan aims to minimize waste generation, maximize reuse, recycling and recovery material, recover energy from the waste stream and only then dispose of remaining waste in landfill. Targets suggest reducing the quantity of waste generated per capita to 90% or less of the 2010 volumes and increasing the amount recycled by 80% - all by 2020.
