Loudoun Data Center Wins Washington Building Congress Craftsmanship Award
The Washington Building Congress recently announced the winners of its 64th annual Craftsmanship Awards recognizing exceptional workmanship on buildings throughout the Washington, D.C. area. Morrison Hershfield staff were part of the project team that was honored with an award in two categories this year for their work on LC1A Data Center in Loudoun County, Virginia. The project won awards in both the Electrical Special Systems category and the Power Generation, Distribution and Switchgear category.
Part of an Outstanding Team
Morrison Hershfield provided MEP engineering and commissioning for the project, and is honored to have been part of a dynamic and forward thinking team that included Dynalectic Company (Electrical Contractor), Holder Construction Company (General Contractor), Pool & Kent (Mechanical and Plumbing Contractor) and DVA Architects. The team was handpicked as many of the members have worked together on multiple data center builds in the past, including partnering on the ACC10 Technology Center that won the WBC Craftsmanship Award for Electrical Special Systems in 2019.
The success of LC1A is a testament to the vision of CloudHQ, the data center provider who brought the data center to the market. Their vision was brought to life through the flexibility and collaboration of the design team, the dedication of the contractor to drive the team toward completion and the exceptional craftsmanship of the installation teams.
LC1A Data Center
From concept to occupancy, the team designed, constructed and commissioned a massive 575,000 SF two story facility boasting 36 MW of day one critical power in 14 months. The remaining 36 MW of power and cooling infrastructure was completed in Fall of 2019, for a total facility critical load of 72 MW in 19 months.
Collaborating for Award-Winning Results
The WBC Craftsmanship Awards recognize the exceptional workmanship of firms and individuals delivering projects in the D.C. area. The LC1A design and construction team leveraged their understanding of the marketplace, available equipment, material, labor and constructability requirements in order to deliver a facility with electrical systems worthy of two of these important awards. We congratulate all of our partners and colleagues who are committed to quality building craftsmanship.
